Picture this: it’s a warm summer night, you’re hanging out on the porch, the grill is fired up, and you have an ice-cold margarita in your hand. There’s not a whole lot more that can live up to that, right? This Classic Margarita recipe is a small piece of that puzzle, albeit it is an important one! Just a few simple ingredients come together to make a drink that really is more than the sum of its parts.
Clearly, you don’t have to wait until summer to enjoy a good margarita. These have even been known to help cure the wintertime blues!
Margarita Ingredients
Silver tequila, good-quality triple sec, fresh squeezed lime juice, a touch of agave nectar, and sea salt are everything that you need to put this drink together.
It is just as easy to make an outstanding margarita as it is to make a mediocre one. So why are we still settling for anything but the best?! It’s madness, I tell you! It really all comes down to the quality of the ingredients you use.
Good-quality triple sec (like Cointreau or Grand Marnier) and fresh squeezed lime juice are the most important parts of this recipe. The quality of the tequila actually doesn’t matter quite as much as you would initially think. Any decent silver tequila that is 100% pure agave will work perfectly fine. Steer clear of anything that doesn’t say 100% agave and bottom shelf selections. Camarena is a great option because it is 100% agave, it’s fairly priced, and it tastes great.
The other piece of this recipe is agave nectar which adds just a touch of sweetness. I have made this recipe both with and without the agave nectar and I prefer it with. I have found that the hint of sweetness really rounds out the drink and provides fantastic balance. Find agave nectar here.
These are the perfect addition to taco night, with Hearty Chicken Enchiladas and Restaurant Style Cheese Dip, or any Mexican or Tex-Mex cuisine! They’re also really good just by themselves.
